Differences Between Thermal Protectors and Overload Protectors

Thermal protectors focus on temperature protection, while overload protectors focus on abnormal current and fault reset.

Thermal protectors are commonly used in motor windings, transformers and heating equipment where temperature rise matters. Overload protectors are used in circuits requiring fault lockout and manual reset. Product selection should consider equipment power, fault mode, reset requirement and safety standards.
